Why
Choose Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy is a profession that has been around for
a long, long time. As the profession evolves, it's a relief
to know that the Massage Therapist that will be treating
you has had to undergo very stringent requirements and examinations
prior to being able to practice in Ontario. The profession
has very strict guidelines and requirements that have to
be fulfilled prior to being able to practice in Ontario.

The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario is the licensing
body in Ontario that monitors and upholds the standards
and regulations which all Massage Therapists have to follow
within the province of Ontario. In order to apply for registration
with the College, a person must be a successful graduate
from an accredited college offering a Massage Therapy Program
with a minimum of 2200 hours of instruction. Within this
2200 hours is 150 hours earned by hands-on practice within
a student clinic. Also, each applicant must have a valid
certificate for both CPR and First Aid. Upon graduation,
the applicant then advances to the level of writing an exam
and an oral practical exam. Once successfully passing these,
along with paying registration fees, the applicant can only
then practice within Ontario after the approval of the College.
Therefore, the client can rest easily as the know they
are in the talented hands of a Massage Therapist who is
dedicated to helping the client achieve optimum health.

cyclists, joggers, sitting for extended periods of time, athletes,
dancers, and anyone who carries heavy objects always using the
same side. -Location: lateral side of the leg from the hip to
just below the knee.
Relaxation
Massage / Therapeutic Massage
In general, most therapists first encounter their clients as
a result of their search to relieve stress, thus the client comes
in for a " relaxation massage". Some clients continue on to specific
treatments where others just continue with the relaxation massage.
There are approximately 150 different treatments that can be performed
depending upon the client's condition. These vary from muscle
spasms and trigger points to more complex conditions such as Bell's
Palsy and Trigeminal Neuralgia.
Sports
Massage
Massage therapy can be a very valuable asset for athletes both
prior to and after the event that they are involved in. Prior
to a sporting event (eg. Running a sprint), the athlete could
receive a stimulating massage which would help to prepare his
or her body for the outburst of energy it will be required during
the event. After the event, the athlete could have a relaxing
massage which would help to relieve the muscles that were overworked
and help remove any cellular wastes from the muscles.
Alternative
Treatment
Massage therapy is considered an alternative treatment compared
to visiting a medical doctor who would give you a prescription
for some medication to relieve your aches and pains.
Insurance
Coverage
Some extended health care plans have some coverage for massage
therapy sessions. Policies from specific companies will list their
amount of coverage available.
